Why Space Toys?
I want a generation of kids to get excited about space travel, and more specifically traveling to Mars. Humans are almost ready for the journey; we are mastering the propulsion tech to travel to and from Mars, as well as taming the biology to support human life in unfamiliar environments. Mars is within our grasp, and I want a generation of future engineers, physicists, biologists, politicians, and policymakers to grow up believing that human life on Mars is their birthright.
Why go to Mars?
Survival of the Human Race
My fascination with Mars comes from a love of the human race. I care if we succeed in the future, and last a long time. So the first reason is sheer survival - if something should befall us here on Earth, like an asteroid or a disease, it would be better if all of our eggs weren’t in one basket.
The Resulting Innovation
When humans set a big goal for ourselves, we end up making amazing discoveries along the way. Had we not attempted to go to the moon, we wouldn’t have invented the microchip, and birthed the digital age of computing. WWII pushed our hand to map the ocean floor. We do amazing things when we have a reason to try, and so many prosperous industries will likely be discovered along the way as we reach for the Red Planet.
Mars as a base
With a successful Martian colony, we will have taken the first critical step in exploring our solar system. But there is so much more to explore! Titan, Europa, and Enceladus are the next stops.
Celebrating the best of us
Human curiosity, courage, coordination, and empirical thinking are our best qualities. I want to celebrate this part of who we are. Sure, humans also do dumb and cruel things, but I want to emphasize the good in us.
